Make COLD brew cafe instead?
Here’s a cool idea:
Instead of brewing hot coffee, how about brewing it cold instead?
Cold brew or cold press refers to the process of steeping coffee grounds in room temperature or cold water for an extended period. It is also sometimes referred to as Toddy coffee which is a trademarked cold brewing system.
Cold brewed coffee naturally seems sweeter due to its lower acidity. Because the coffee beans in cold-press coffee never come into contact with heated water, the process of leaching flavor from the beans produces a different chemical profile from conventional brewing methods. [Source: Wikipedia]
Typically you would need 11-12 hours to brew your coffee cold. But we found a recipe by @Cheryl Marquez in her blog that’s pretty neat.Â
Plus, all the tools needed are easily found in almost any kitchen so it’s quite easy for anyone to try.
COLD BREW COFFEE
2/3 cup coarse ground coffee*
2 water bottles (16.9 oz)
Pitcher or Mason Jar
Add 2/3 cup of coffee and two 16.9 oz water bottles to a pitcher or mason jar. It’s best if you freshly grind the coffee, it’s not a big deal if you don’t. Mix coffee grounds into water until it’s all wet. Cover and let sit on the counter for 12 – 18 hours. Put coffee filter in strainer over a bowl and slowly pour coffee through. Clean pitcher and pour strained coffee back into the pitcher.
Chill for ~1 hour.
Store in refrigerator for up to 5 days.
*Original ratio from the Noshon.it was 1/3 cup coarse ground coffee to 1.5 cups water, you can multiply based on the size of the container.
1 cup of cold brew
½ cup almond milk or coconut milk
Add honey to taste
Cheryl’s got two shortcuts that makes it easier to do the coffee press.
